Sensei Brinna Lavelle – Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Instructor
Sensei Brinna Lavelle has dedicated her life to martial arts, starting her journey in Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at just three years old under the guidance of her father, Sensei Dave. Raised in Clarksville, TN, Brinna’s passion for combat sports grew alongside her competitive success. She holds a black belt in Judo and a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, earning national and international recognition for her accomplishments.
Brinna is a 15-time Tennessee State Judo Champion, a 2-time Collegiate All-American, a 2-time Junior National Champion, and the 2021 Senior National Champion. She was named the United States Judo Association’s Outstanding Female Competitor in 2021 and was ranked #2 in the U.S. for 52kg for three consecutive years. Her international experience includes competing as a member of the U.S. Collegiate Judo Team at the FISU America Games (2018) and the Collegiate World University Games (2019).
Beyond her athletic achievements, Brinna pursued her academic passions, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Austin Peay State University before going on to complete a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University. Despite her demanding career, she remains a dedicated instructor and mentor at Renzo Gracie Clarksville, helping to develop the next generation of Judokas.
Brinna is married to Prime Performance coach A.J. Carter Jr., and together, they bring a wealth of experience and dedication to the academy. Alongside her father, Sensei Dave, and Sensei Charlene, she plays a key role in leading the Judo program and competition team. Her passion for martial arts and teaching is evident in every class she leads, inspiring students to push their limits both on and off the mats.
