Biography

Coach Kyle Sheahan – Assistant Wrestling Coach

SFC (Retired) Kyle Sheahan, known as “Coach Kyle,” brings an impressive background of military service and combat sports experience to Renzo Gracie Clarksville’s wrestling program. He served in the U.S. Army for over two decades, beginning as an Infantryman with the 1st Brigade Devils (Fort Bragg, NC) and 2nd Brigade Strike (Fort Campbell, KY). Throughout his career, he held roles ranging from squad leader to platoon sergeant, deploying multiple times to Afghanistan alongside the Afghan National Army, commandos, and police during Operation Enduring Freedom.

After being selected for the elite Psychological Operations Qualification Course, Kyle transitioned into special operations, serving as the East Africa Team Chief within the 4th Psychological Operations Group. His work took him across the continent, where he collaborated with partner forces, special operations units, and government agencies to combat violent extremist organizations. His military training includes Army Combatives, Special Operations Combatives, Airborne and Air Assault Schools, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, and advanced leadership courses. He is also fluent in French, further expanding his ability to work in global operations.

Coach Kyle’s passion for wrestling and martial arts began in middle school, leading to competition at the regional and state levels. Nearly 20 years ago, he started training in boxing and judo in Clarksville under Sensei Ryan. Upon retirement from the Army, he fully embraced coaching, first leading youth football teams to multiple championship victories before transitioning to wrestling. Since joining the coaching staff, he has helped develop multiple All-American, regional, and All-State wrestlers, taking pride in mentoring young athletes to overcome mental and physical challenges.

Kyle’s coaching philosophy is built on resilience and perseverance, often reminding his students, “Knees are no place for a champion—not on the mat or in life.” His dedication to developing strong, disciplined wrestlers makes him an invaluable asset to the Renzo Gracie Clarksville family.
