Holiday Cheer Comes Early at Renzo Gracie Clarksville!

Holiday Cheer Comes Early at Renzo Gracie Clarksville!

Each year, Renzo Gracie Clarksville (RGC) injects a hefty dose of holiday cheer into the middle Tennessee community through various charitable endeavors. But one cause holds a special place in the hearts of our instructors and students: the Department of Child Services (DCS) Christmas Fund. It’s about bringing joy to children who wouldn’t otherwise have a magical Christmas morning.

But how do you raise money for such a worthy cause? This year, Professor Andrew Hansen and the RGC Hit Squad, our elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition team, decided to get creative. What started as a playful debate about who could devour the most food in an eating competition morphed into an epic fundraising showdown: the Renzo Gracie Hot Dog Eating Contest!

Students rallied behind their favorite competitors, their enthusiasm rivaling even the most intense BJJ match. Pledges and donations flew in, fueled by the spirit of giving and the promise of witnessing some serious stomach-stretching feats. Come September 17, 2023, Talley Hall Event Center buzzed with excitement as contestants battled it out, buns flying and ketchup cascading…well, not the ketchup (we wouldn’t recommend trying this at home!).

In the end, three champions emerged, proudly clutching their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place “Weiner” certificates. But the true winners were the children under DCS care. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, including raffle winners Jon Jasper (who scored a snazzy rash guard!), Amanda Anderson (who snagged a private lesson with Professor Andrew himself!), and Coach Travis Edward (who walked away with a glorious 60-day free membership), we raised a whopping $2,800!

This past week, the RGC team hit the stores, armed with Santa-sized sacks and brimming with excitement. We scoured the shelves for the perfect gifts, each one carefully chosen to spark a child’s eyes with delight on Christmas morning. From cozy blankets and action figures to dolls and board games, we ensured every present would bring a smile and a touch of holiday magic.

From the bottom of our gi-clad hearts, we extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible RGC family. Your kindness and generosity go far beyond the DCS fund. You’ve stepped up to support countless community members and tornado victims throughout the year. You are, quite simply, inspiring.

Remember, the holidays are all about spreading joy and making a difference in the lives of others. So go forth, champions of giving! Volunteer your time, donate to a worthy cause, or simply share a kind word. Every act of generosity, big or small, ripples outward, creating a wave of holiday cheer that washes over those who need it most. Let’s make this December one to remember!

Together, we can make this holiday season truly magical for those in need.

On behalf of the entire Renzo Gracie Clarksville family, we wish you a joyous holiday season filled with love, laughter, and the spirit of giving!
