Martial artists are a rare breed. They commit themselves day in and day out to bettering their art, often sacrificing time with family and friends to train. But even the most dedicated martial artist needs to take some time off occasionally. That’s why at Renzo Gracie Clarksville we offer holiday open mats/gyms.
On most federal holidays, RGC will cancel our regular classes and open the gym for two hours for anyone who wants to train. These open gyms are completely free and open to the public, but each attendee must have a waiver on file.
Please note: there is no instruction during open mats. Training is at your discretion. In sports such as boxing, muay thai, or mma a coach must be present for you to open spar. Bags, mitts, and conditioning are permitted without the presence of your coach. This is to ensure the safety of all participants.
Of course, there are some exceptions. We are closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. These are important holidays for many families, and the school wants to give its students and employees a chance to spend time with their loved ones.
Taking time off from martial arts can be difficult, but it’s important to remember that it’s not a sign of weakness. In fact, it’s a sign of strength. It shows that you’re committed to your art and that you know when to take care of yourself. So next time you’re feeling burnt out, don’t be afraid to take a break. Your body and mind will thank you for it. And who knows, you might even come back to your training stronger than ever before.
